Limelight Pigment Removal FAQs

Treats Hyperpigmentation, Brown sun spots and Sun Damage

What is the Limelight PhotoFacial?
This is a non-invasive way to rejuvenate your skin. It improves skin tone and gives dramatic results for age spots, sun-induced freckles, brown pigmentation marks.

How does it work?
It is a non-ablative treatment which uses broad spectrum light to break up melanin in the brown spots.

What contributes to pigmentation?
Sun exposure contributes to brown pigmentation spots on the skin which can appear on the face, arms, hands, shoulders, and chest. Inflammation can also contribute to pigment development, i.e. at the site of an acne pimple where inflammation was present, pigment may develop.

What parts of the body are suitable for Limelight?
Virtually any part of your body with uneven skin tone, or sun and age spots can be treated. The face, chest, shoulders and arms are the most popular areas for treatment because they have more sun exposure.

Is there any downtime with Limelight treatments?
The treated area turns a dark chocolate brown, which will flake away 7-10 days afterwards.

What do treatments feel like?
When the pulse of light is delivered, you will experience a mild pinching or stinging sensation. Anesthesia or pain medicine is typically not required.

How long will the treatments take?
Treatment time depends on the area of the body being treated. However, most treatments should take less than 30 minutes.

How many treatments will I need?
1-3 treatments are usually sufficient to see results. Additional treatments may be recommended, especially for excessively sun-damaged skin.

What happens after the treatment?
Immediately following treatment, brown spots will start to darken and your skin may appear slightly red.

The treated area may be mildly swollen. This typically lasts a few hours and possibly a day or longer. Mineral Make-up can be applied to cover the treated area as it will be flushed afterwards.

When will I see results?
Within one to three weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade, improving your complexion.

Will the brown spots reappear over time?
You may develop new pigmentation over time, but this can be treated.

What considerations are there when having Limelight?
Clients must not have a fresh tan on their face, if considering treatment. Wait till it fades before commencing Limelight. Daily sunscreen SPF 25 is essential afterwards, as it would be counterproductive otherwise.

What aftercare guidelines should I follow?
Avoid heat treatments for 48 hour afterwards. Apply Aloe Vera for a few days afterwards to soothe skin.

Apply a cold pack if necessary to reduce the heat, and calm any swelling that may be present. Wear a daily sunscreen afterwards to prevent it coming back. Lightening products will reduce the incidence of it returning. Have a repeat treatment 4 week later if further improvement is desired.
